Cavendish Banana
Cavendish banana was introduced and commercially cultivated in Vietnam from the late 1990s to the early 2000s. Today, this variety is widely grown in the Southeast (Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc) and the Central Highlands (Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Lam Dong). The advantages of Vietnamese Cavendish bananas come from the stable tropical monsoon climate, with an average temperature of 24–30°C and high sunshine hours; these areas offer a wide day–night temperature range, which helps the fruit develop a long shape, thick peel, and strong green retention. Combined with high tech cultivation practices: drip irrigation, bunch bagging, standardized grading, and precooling, Vietnamese Cavendish bananas meet the stringent requirements of markets such as South Korea, Japan, and the Middle East.

Export Overview
Over the past five years, Vietnam’s Cavendish banana industry has experienced remarkable growth, positioning the country among the leading banana suppliers in Asia. By 2023, Vietnam exported nearly 2.4 million tons of bananas to China alone, generating an export value of around USD 1.2 billion.
In the last three years, the momentum has been even stronger. In 2022, banana exports surged by 34.2% in value, reaching USD 310.6 million. In 2023, the sector maintained stable performance with exports of more than USD 300 million, ranking as Vietnam’s third-largest fruit export after durian and dragon fruit. The most significant breakthrough came in 2024, when Vietnam officially became the largest banana supplier to China, shipping approximately 625,000 tons worth USD 261 million — up 28% in volume and 7% in value compared to the previous year.
With competitive pricing, fertile growing regions, and strict compliance with VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, Vietnamese Cavendish bananas have not only consolidated their position in China but are also expanding into demanding markets such as South Korea, Japan, and the Middle East. This rapid growth demonstrates the strong potential of Vietnam’s Cavendish bananas as a reliable and sustainable choice for global importers.
