Export Overview
At present, Vietnam possesses the largest dragon fruit cultivation area and output in Asia and is also the world’s leading exporter. Vietnamese dragon fruit is shipped to various countries and regions, including traditional markets such as China and Southeast Asia, as well as demanding markets like the US, Japan, and Singapore.
Over the past three years, however, Vietnam’s dragon fruit exports have witnessed a notable decline. In 2021, export value reached approximately USD 1.03 billion, but by 2022, it had fallen sharply to around USD 633 million, marking a decrease of nearly 40%. This downward trend continued in 2023, with exports slightly dropping to about USD 614 million, mainly due to heavy dependence on the Chinese market, which expanded its domestic production and implemented stricter import standards. Nevertheless, in the first half of 2024, Vietnam’s dragon fruit exports showed signs of recovery, reaching nearly USD 298 million, supported by increased demand from India, the US, South Korea, and the UAE. Despite these challenges, Vietnam remains among the world’s top dragon fruit exporters, with ongoing efforts to enhance quality standards, promote processed products, and diversify export markets to sustain growth in the coming years.
